For those of us with iTunes (I think there's a slight chance Franny might have iTunes...), please direct yourself to David Foster and Dolly Parton's deluxurious version of Imagine that's now available as an advanced single for Dolly's new album Those Were the Days, dropping into the hands of Best Buys all over the red states on Tuesday: a collection of sixties and seventies pieces with a beautiful day-glo pastel cover that makes it required buying as a physical CD from a store. And as much as Dolly downplays certain overtones of the record, we already have her asking us to think about a world without heaven, religion, posessions and reasons to kill and die... but, Harold and Maude fans, Where Do The Children Play is in this collection, as are the Peter, Paul and Mary chestnuts, The Cruel War and Where Have All the Flowers Gone. Dolly and Willie Nelson can be peaceniks and avoid the wrath of Lee-fucking-Greenwood by being, well, Dolly and Willie. Like Andre and Steffi, it's hard to dis royalty. That said, some of the less messagy stuff but just as amazing - Me and Bobby McGee! Crimson and Clover! Both Sides Now! and if that weren't a big enough plate of gravy to soak up your biscuits, she's doing the Johnny Mathis nugget The Twelfth of Never! Which is how long we'll love Dolly. And that's a long long time. Head to a record store on Tuesday, but you can go here now to gaze at the psychadelic splendor of the cover.
